Priyanka Chopra Sexiest Asian Women on the Planet

Whoa! Priyanka is Sexiest Asian Women

Quantico actress  Priyanka Chopra, who has achieved global visibility in the recent past, has topped a list of 50 'Sexiest Asian Women on the Planet' compiled by a British magazine. This is the third time in the past four years that the "Quantico" actress has topped the list.

Priyanka emerged as the top name after people voted from across the globe for the 2015 edition of the popular annual poll conducted by the Britain-based Eastern Eye newspaper.

The 'desi girl' of tinsel town is happy.

"Now that's a title I'm happy to hold on to. I'm bringing sexy back! A big thank you to everyone who's voted for me. Thank you also to Eastern Eye for making me feel 'sexy'; well, at least for another year. A piece of advice to the ladies - it's all in the mind. Remember, sexy is as sexy does," Priyanka said in a statement.

Eastern Eye's entertainment editor Asjad Nazir, who founded the list and puts it together annually, believes Priyanka has become the global face of India.

Fawad Khan Visited Kriti Sanon: Her Sister thinks he’s hot

Gravity-defying action sequences are a staple of the Rohit Shetty brand of films. While they leave the sober ones scratching their heads, there are those who jump off their seats in awe every time an actor sends an SUV flying into the air with the touch of a finger.

While Dilwale is expected to be laced with the same visual element, the film is also featuring new girl on the block, Kriti Sanon, whose infant career itself is in gravity-defying mode. Dilwale is only her second Bollywood innings, and what a dream it is turning out to be for the newcomer. During an exclusive conversation with The Express Tribune, Kriti recalls how it all happened. She received a phone call one day and was informed that Rohit wants to see her. “I met him and in no time I had signed up for the project.”

The model-turned-actor firmly believes it has been an opportunity of a lifetime. “It couldn’t have been bigger than Dilwale,” she says.

In the film that is set to hit theatres on December 18, Kriti essays the character of Ishita, a simple girl who falls for Veer (Varun Dhawan) due to his honesty. Kriti says the girl evens out the loud characteristics of others in the film. “I am louder than Ishita in real life,” she quips, adding Rohit had this exact mould of the girl-next-door type for her in his mind.

Teaming up with Varun alongside arguably one of Bollywood’s most loved on-screen couples, Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol, meant pressure and nervousness were an almost given. However, that is not the case. “There was no pressure at all. Everyone was very friendly and encouraging,” she says.

Kriti has time and again cited Shah Rukh as one of her childhood film idols with whose on-screen characters she has learnt to laugh and cry. “We were shooting in Goa and Shah Rukh visited the sets. The moment I saw him, from being all chirpy and animated I went quiet,” she laughingly states. Interestingly, when Ishita and Raj (Shah Rukh) cross paths for the first time in Dilwale, she scolds him. “Yes I was nervous because I didn’t want to make him do several takes. But I was never intimidated. He was so supportive all throughout.” Shah Rukh has this air about him that almost every co-star does not shy away from mentioning. “He encourages everyone and helps out so much, even during rehearsals.”

Kriti’s fangirl moment

Not so long ago, Kriti sat for her GMAT and decided to continue her education if things do not turn out well in the industry. After Heropanti and now Dilwale, there is certainly no looking back. “Now those [her scores] are no longer needed,” she says, and rightfully so. Kriti is an engineer by profession and read for an electronics and communication degree in college.

Kriti is aware of the fact that Bollywood is no longer the same industry as the one she grew up watching. The boost in production avenues has opened the floodgates for newcomers to test their luck in the industry. Looks are no more a rarity; even family connections help little. The girl who is on her own in this competitive work environment, states, “Looks are not enough to help sustain a film career. There is a lot more required in the long run. Today all sorts of films are being made. There are films being made on women-oriented subjects; a lot of work is going on. The model is such that you need the X factor in order to survive.”

Apple plans to release its first car in 2019

Apple plans to release its first car in 2019, according to a report by the Wall Street Journal. It’s the focus of a major initiative dubbed “Project Titan.”

This has been a topic of discussion for quite some time, and now it’s getting very real. The company is now referring to Titan as a “committed project” internally, and plans to triple the number of people working on it—jumping from 600 to 1,800 employees.

Rumors thus far have suggested that Apple is working on a self-driving car, but the company’s first vehicle is unlikely to be fully autonomous, the WSJ says, citing people familiar with the company’s plans.

The first reports about an Apple car surfaced in February of this year, noting that the company was working on an Apple-branded electric vehicle that resembles a minivan. Since then, the company has made a number of notable hires, including Fiat Chrystler’s Doug Betts and autonomous vehicle researcher Paul Furgale.

Piper Jaffray equity analyst Gene Munster recently estimated Apple’s chances of producing a car at between 50 percent and 60 percent, noting that any car made by Apple would have three distinctive features: a unique design, interoperability with other Apple devices, and at least some autonomous capability.

Last week, Stephen Colbert asked Tim Cook about the company’s rumored driverless car. Cook replied vaguely: “We look at a number of things along the way, and we decide to really put our energies in a few of them.”

While Apple is reportedly shooting for a 2019 launch, the WSJ’s sources are skeptical that the company will be able to meet that deadline. Building a car is an ambitious endeavor for any company—especially one with no experience in the automotive industry. With that said, it’s possible that Apple’s 2019 target date isn’t when the car will be available for purchase, but when engineers sign off on the product’s main features.

Apple declined to comment on this story.

In what looked like an attempt to avoid fuelling of their dating rumours, both of them maintained some distance while walking at the venue.

They seemed to enjoyed their time together at the amusement park. In addition to riding a roller coaster, both of them enjoyed a number of games and ice creams.

Neither Gomez nor Horan has commented on the photographs of their outing yet.

Elton John asks young stars to wean off drugs

Elton John asks young stars to wean off drugs

Elton John has urged young singers to get their highs from music and not drugs.

The singer, who had to struggle with substance addiction until 1990, suggested the young stars to maintain their distance from drugs while talking to Vice magazine, reports mirror.co.uk.

He said: `Young musicians have disappeared into the bathroom and I've gone, 'Are you doing coke?' And they're going, 'Yeah!' I said, 'That's not a good idea' and they say, 'It's what I'm meant to do, isn't it?' No, you're not.

`It's a f****** horrible drug. It brings out the worst side of your soul, you don't need it, you've got so much talent. Stop it. It's a f****** horror story.`

The `Sacrifice` hitmaker added that `Just because Amy Winehouse, Jim Morrison and Jimi Hendrix died at 27, it doesn't mean you have to.`

The 68-year-old also noted that he `used to sit on my own doing lines of coke, smoking joints and drinking scotch. I used to think, 'Why am I doing this?' I didn't realise I was an addict.`

Queen Latifah roped in for lead role in Lee Daniels' next

Queen Latifah has been roped in to play the lead role in Lee Daniels' new show, a musical drama.

The project is being developed for Fox under the title "Star".

The show itself centres on these "three girls who come together to form a band and it's about their rise to the top in a very challenging business", Fox chairman and CEO Gary Newman had previously said.

"It's the perspective of the artist and, without getting too much into the storyline, one of our characters is rising out of poverty and there is a lot from Lee's own life that's baked into the DNA of this project," Newman had said.

"Star" is written, directed and executive produced by Daniels.

Fear The Walking Dead – Season 2 Begins Filming and Flight 462

Feature-Image

AMC announced today the start of production on “Fear the Walking Dead” season two in the Baja peninsula in Mexico at Baja Studios, site of the filming for Titanic, Master and Commander and other feature films. The companion series to “The Walking Dead,” the #1 show on television among adults 18-49, “Fear the Walking Dead” delivered the highest-rated first season of any series in cable history among total viewers and all key demos in live+3 ratings. Executive produced by showrunner Dave Erickson, Robert Kirkman, Gale Anne Hurd, Greg Nicotero and David Alpert, “Fear the Walking Dead” returns for a second season of 15 episodes next spring.

“We are thrilled to be starting production and even more thrilled to be shooting in Mexico. Baja Studios has been home to some of the greatest ocean-set films in recent years and provides all the creative resources we need to begin this new chapter in the ‘Fear’ saga. We couldn’t be happier,” said Erickson.

Season one left off with Madison (Kim Dickens), Travis (Cliff Curtis) and their extended family taking temporary shelter in Strand’s (Colman Domingo) gated estate overlooking the Pacific Ocean. As civil unrest continues to grow and the dead take over Los Angeles, Strand prepares to escape to “Abigail,” his large yacht moored offshore.

“Fear the Walking Dead” takes us back to the beginning of the zombie apocalypse – a time when the world was changing rapidly for reasons unknown, before anyone understood exactly what was happening, when life as everyone knew it was upended and altered in ways no one could have ever imagined. “Fear the Walking Dead” stars Kim Dickens as Madison, Cliff Curtis as Travis, Frank Dillane  as Nick, Alycia Debnam-Carey as Alicia, Ruben Blades as Daniel, Mercedes Mason as Ofelia, Lorenzo James Henrie as Chris and Colman Domingo as Strand.

We will all be waiting and anticipating this next season of Fear The Walking Dead. Season 1 of the AMC zombie thriller ended on a tragic note as Travis (Cliff Curtis) is forced to kill his former wife Liza in order to save her from turning into a zombie. The finale also revealed that the lead cast will move towards the sea with the help of Strand (Colman Domingo), a mysterious wealthy man. By the end of season 1, fans were expecting Strand to emerge as a major character and AMC’s recent announcement has proved them right as Colman Domingo has been promoted to series regular. What I want to know is, will we see Zombie Pirates? Erickson, had earlier told Hollywood Reporter that FTWD season 2 will take place on both land and sea. He had also teased that many people will try to escape the infection by boarding boats. “We end on one boat and the ocean beyond, but what we’ll come to realize and this will be part of what the military is doing,” he told the website.

“You’ll see that land is no longer safe. At least not in Southern California. Some people have not been quarantined or driven north or south. But there’s thousands of boats through L.A. County. So a lot of people will stock up the boats and try to get to the water and avoid land as much as humanly possible. You’ll see a lot of people trying to survive. If you look at Strand’s yacht, it’s a pretty handsome vessel. It’s something that you can survive on for a good period of time, and that’s something others might covet. So when you get to the question of what’s worse, walker or human, we’ll continue that theme. There will be quite a bit of action on the seas — and we’ll split it between land and water. But it’s going to be an interesting dynamic.”

Madonna used fake police car

madonna chipmunk face ap.jpg

Madonna has been accused of using a fake police car to queue-jump through traffic here.

The 57-year-old singer allegedly hopped in a black Jaguar after her two gigs on Tuesday and Wednesday this week at the O2 Arena here. When the vehicle sped off with blue and red lights flashing from its dashboard and queue jumped through traffic, reports femalefirst.co.uk.

"I was waiting outside the O2 and all the roads were blocked. Nobody was moving, then all of a sudden there's this huge commotion and I saw flashing lights. Then I saw a car and we figured it was an undercover cop. It was beeping so all the traffic let it through. Some drivers were really annoyed," The Sun newspaper quoted an eye witness as saying.

"Then I looked into the car and saw Madonna. She's being driven out with a flashing light sat on the dashboard," the witness added.

Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show, Selena Gomez Slayed it

Undeniably, the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show was one of the sexiest nights on television in 2015. Each of the 44 genetically blessed models dropped jaws putting their beauty and brawn (seriously, those girls train like Olympic athletes for this event) on display in raunchy, ridiculous (would you wear a spacesuit in the bedroom?!), and enviable lingerie. But Selena Gomez, who performed a medley of her hits “Hands to Myself” and "My Girls" from Revival while the winged women walked on by, was the hottest thing on the runway. Seriously, she was so hot Gigi Hadid had to come out dressed as a firefighter to extinguish the flames.

The 23-year-old’s outfit was fit for the occasion: she showed some skin, but not too much so she couldn’t dance, but enough so she still fit the skimpy dress code. In a black silk dress from Joli B. Atelier, a diamond necklace from Messika Jewelry that paired well with her glowing spray tan, and some bada** Louis Vuitton leather gloves, she shined and shimmied. Her singing wasn’t too bad either! Take it from someone who was there live, that girl has pipes! But my support and attestations haven’t stopped the haters from criticizing her.

During the broadcast on CBS on Tuesday night, Victoria’s Secret posted an image of the singer on their Instagram and many commenters called her out for not singing live.

But Gomez, never one to take judgement without voicing her own opinions (remember when she shot down her body shamers? Multiple times!), responded in the comments, albeit a little aggressively, but she’s forgiven for her salty language.

So yes, she f***ing sings lives, and yes, it was freaking awesome, so relive it all — over and over again if you’d like!

Another likened it to traditional men's magazines:

"Why this cover reminds me of FHM or Maxim magazine? I'm disappointed 😟"

And yet another really let the mag have it:

"Disappointing from HB for such a reputable, inspiring and thought provoking magazine to resort to a full nude cover shot to sell. You've lost track of who your reader is, of what you think we want to see and why we buy HB. Really disappointing"
Of course there were still those who loved it and applauded Miranda's perfect body.
But the 32-year-old had more up her sleeve!

How Michael's Past Legal Troubles

Michael Cavallari: Inside His Past Legal Troubles

While Kristin Cavallari's brother Michael remains missing after his car was found abandoned in Utah on Nov. 27, more details have emerged about his past troubles with the law.

On Nov. 23, just days before his disappearance, Cavallari, 30, was arrested and briefly held in an Orange County jail. He was arrested with a loaded shotgun outside the city hall in Dana Point, California, and an unnamed woman also claimed Cavallari was outside her home carrying a shotgun, according to various reports.

In November 2014, Cavallari was found guilty of driving while his blood alcohol level was above the legal limit of 0.08 percent, according to legal documents obtained by PEOPLE. He was sentenced to three years of probation, $390 in fines, one day in jail, three months of attendance in a first offender alcohol program, and victim impact counseling.

He was also found guilty of several other driving violations, including driving at an unsafe speed in May 2014, and unsafe passing and driving while using a cell phone in October 2013.

Cavallari was charged with petty theft in July 2012, but those charges were ultimately dismissed.

"[Michael] was always a troubled kid and there was always drama with him," a source previously told PEOPLE. "He gave his parents a hard time. He's completely opposite to Kristin, who is levelheaded and business orientated."

Kristin expressed her hope for his safe return in an Instagram post she shared on Monday.

"I appreciate all the concern, thoughts, and prayers that have been extended to me and my family," she wrote. "We remain hopeful and I will share any news that we receive. I have such gratitude for all those that have shared their support."

Anyone with information regarding Cavallari should contact the Grand County Sheriff's Office at 435-359-8115.

Talking about fostering and adopting her three-and-a-half-year-old daughter Laila, Bullock said she had "no idea what a 'traditional family' looks like any more.

Zayn Malik Loves Dating Gigi Hadid

Zayn Malik 'heavily pursuing' Gigi Hadid

Former One Direction member Zayn Malik is "heavily pursuing" model Gigi Hadid, but she is said to be more ambivalent about their romance.

According to a source, Malik has been spotted on a string of dates with Hadid in past few weeks, and while he is infatuated with her, she is reluctant to get into anything serious and even invited her sister on one of their nights out, reports femalefirst.co.uk.

`Zayn is slightly besotted with Gigi. He's been the one heavily pursuing her, rather than the other way round,` the source was quoted as saying by Grazia magazine.

"He thinks she's stunning and it wouldn't harm his profile to be dating a top US model as he launches
his solo career," the source said while adding that Hadid is "slightly more ambivalent" towards Malik.

"Gigi is slightly more ambivalent. She's aware of Zayn's bad-boy reputation, and is approaching with caution. She even invited her sister Bella on their date to The Nice Guy to encourage Zayn to behave himself,` the source said.

Salman Khan Gets Clean Chit in hit and run case

OMG! Salman irked Kat yet again

After witnessing the latest turn around in the infamous 2002 hit and run case involving Salman, there remains no doubts about the fact that 2015 has proved to be the luckiest year of Sallu Bhaai''s life.

Earlier it was ground breaking success of his last cine flick Bajranji Bhaijaan and now his acquittal from the infamous hit and run case of 2002.

If recent reports coming from the tinsel town are something to go by then they suggest that Bombay High Court on Thursday acquitted the Bollywood actor of all criminal charges that he had been held guilty of by a trial court in May.

Reports further suggest that prosecution did not establish its case against the actor beyond a reasonable doubt as is required under criminal law which eventually led to the acquittal of the actor as the court narrated its verdict keeping in view the "unexplained and glaring anomalies" in the evidence.

Delivering the much-awaited verdict, Justice A.R. Joshi said that the actor "cannot be convicted" on the basis of the evidence produced by the prosecution in the 13-year old case and trial.

Virtually dismissing the prosecution case, Justice Joshi said the "prosecution failed to establish the charges (against Khan) on all counts" and that "it had failed to prove that Salman was drunk or driving" at the time of the accident, which left one pavement dweller dead and four others injured.

It is also pertinent to mention here that, Salman approached the Bombay High Court after he was sentenced for 5 years by a lower court in May this year.

Khan, clad in a dark-checked shirt and jeans, heard out the verdict without emotions after he rushed here from a shooting schedule in Karjat, adjacent Raigad district following the court's directive.

Most family members, including his father Salim Khan, his sisters, brothers, friends and fans were present when the judgement was pronounced.

Well after seeing this latest development in this infamous case we can conveniently say that now this icon of millions will finally have a sigh of relief after undergoing a tormenting agony for 13 long years.

Sonia, Rahul Get Relief from court

Congress president Sonia Gandhi, her son Rahul Gandhi and others were on Tuesday directed to appear in person on December 19 by a Delhi court, which allowed their plea seeking exemption from personal appearance for the day in the National Herald case.

The issue, however, gave reason to the Congress to disturb proceedings in both Houses of Parliament, forcing it to be adjourned for a short duration in the morning. Members of the party rushed to the well in the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, alleging the government was behind the case.
In the court, Senior Advocates Abhishek Manu Singhvi, Harin Raval and Ramesh Gupta appeared for the Gandhis and other accused and moved separate pleas seeking exemption from personal appearance for their clients for today only.

“We are very keen to come before the court,” Singhvi told Metropolitan Magistrate Lovleen, adding, “Please give us a date of your choice and that of the convenience of Dr Subramanian Swamy.”
Swamy, who has filed the case, however, told the court that there are seven accused in the case and today’s date was fixed in September itself.

“Accused number 2 (Rahul Gandhi) has left for Chennai this morning,” he said.
The magistrate, however, told the defence counsel to ensure that all the accused appear before the court on the next date of hearing on December 19.
“Make sure that all the accused appear on December 19. I am giving exemption from personal appearance only for today. Don’t come in the morning on December 19. You come at 3 pm,” the magistrate said.
During the brief hearing in the jam-packed courtroom, the court said, “Is the judgement of the (Delhi) High Court on the net? Can I see it.” Responding to the court’s query, Swamy placed a copy of the verdict of the high court delivered yesterday before the court.
During the hearing, senior counsel Ramesh Gupta told the magistrate that accused Sam Pitroda is presently in the United States and they will try their best that he appears before the court on December 19.
To this, the court asked them to ensure that all the accused appear before it on December 19.
Rahul Gandhi today left for a visit to flood-affected areas of Chennai and its suburbs and Puducherry. Gandhi would first visit Puducherry and later Cuddalore and Chennai during the day-long visit.
Speaking to reporters outside Parliament, when asked if the case was political vendetta, Sonia said:  “I leave it on you to judge”.
Speaking to the media later in Chennai, Congress vice-president said: “I absolutely see a political vendetta,” adding that: “This is the way the Central government functions.”
He said: “the Centre thinks that they can stop me from asking questions about them by "vendetta" politics. That is not going to happen.”
The Delhi High Court had yesterday rejected the pleas of Gandhis and others for quashing of the summons against them in the case and also turned down their pleas for exemption from personal appearance in the trial court.
Along with the Gandhis, five other accused -- Suman Dubey, Moti Lal Vohra, Oscar Fernandez, Sam Pitroda and Young India Ltd -- had challenged the summons issued to them by a trial court on a complaint by Swamy against them for alleged cheating and misappropriation of funds in taking control of the now-defunct daily.
The trial court had on June 26, last year summoned all the above accused to appear before it on August 7, 2014 on Swamy's complaint.
The Congress leaders had, thereafter, on July 30, 2014, moved the high court, which had stayed the summons on August 6, last year.
Thereafter, on December 15, 2014, the court had further stayed the summons till final disposal of the petitions. While talking to reporters outside court, Singhvi charged that the present case is a "proxy litigation", used as a "political vendetta" by BJP to attack senior Congress persons.
He stressed that each of the accused is "extremely keen, ready and willing" to appear before the court on December 19.
"We made it clear to the magistrate today that each of the accused is extremely keen, ready and willing to appear before the court at the earliest possible date. It is our statement, not the complainant's in the court. We are only seeking exemption for today as there was no time to study the order as it came yesterday and Parliament sessions is on etc.
"But on December 19, at our request, the earliest possible date was given. All the accused, barring one, who is in USA, will certainly be present on December 19. The accused who is in USA will also try his best to be here," he said.
Singhvi charged that the present case was an outcome of political vendetta.
"This is a political vendetta and worst, the complainant Swamy is a senior and active member of BJP. The ruling party in the power is using proxy litigations to attack the senior Congress functionaries out of political malice.
"You have a series since last 18 months alone whether its Virbhadra Singh, whose case was rudely intruded upon the wedding of his child on baseless allegations... Roping in Chidambaram and his family when the raids (were) conducted were totally different and unconnected. There are several such examples. This (Herald case) happens to be another example in that series. We shall fight it with all our might in all legal recourse and all legal forums.”
"There is not a slightest doubt in our mind... not a single ingredient of any offence has been made out. But that is for the higher court to consider," Singhvi said.

Trains collide near Palwal, driver dead

A local train hit an express at Baghola village in the district on Tuesday, leaving the driver of one of the trains dead and two other people injured.

The accident occurred at 8.30 am. A Palwal EMU shuttle hit the Lokmanya Tilak-Haridwar Express slowly making its way towards Delhi some 5 km from Palwal near Baghola village, Northern Railway spokesperson Neeraj Sharma said.

"It was foggy in the morning. The EMU driver probably could not see the signal and hit the train from behind," he said.

Passengers of both trains were safe but the crash left guard’s coach and the engine of the EMU mangled, trapping the driver and the assistant under the debris, railway officials said.
Passengers eventually pulled them out. Driver of the Palwal-Ghaziabad EMU, identified only as Yashpal, died at a hospital later in the day.

The assistant driver of the train and guard of the express train are still being treated, Sharma said.
The accident affected 15 trains on the route. Trains held up at the Palwal-Asaoti stretch are being diverted.

Northern Railway has opened helpline numbers 011-23459748, 1072, and 011-23341074 for inquiry.
Railways have also ordered an inquiry into accident.
Commissioner of Railway Safety SK Pathak will look into the accident, said a senior Railway Ministry official.

US aid to Pak will be used against India

As the US prepares to sell F-16s to Pakistan, the country's former top diplomat has warned the Congress that such fighter jets would end up being used against India and not against terrorists.
Describing sale of such military hardware and even reported talk of a civil nuclear deal as an appeasement policy towards Pakistani military, the former top Pakistani diplomat has urged the US to tell the leaders in Pakistan that their ambition of rivalling India is akin to Belgium trying to rival France or Germany.
"The Obama administration's consideration of a nuclear deal with Pakistan, just like its decision a few months ago to sell almost USD 1 billion in US-made attack helicopters, missiles and other equipment to Pakistan will fuel conflict in South Asia without fulfilling the objective of helping the country fight Islamist extremists or limit its nuclear arsenal," said Husain Haqqani, the former Pakistani Ambassador to the US.

In a prepared remark submitted ahead of a Congressional hearing on 'Civil Nuclear Cooperation with Pakistan: Prospects and Consequences to the Terrorism, Nonproliferation, and Trade Subcommittee of the Committee on Foreign Affairs', Haqqani said Pakistan's failure to tackle its jihadist challenge is not the result of a lack of arms but reflects an absence of will.
"Unless Pakistan changes its worldview and its compulsive competition with its much larger neighbour even in violation of international commitments, American weapons will end up being used to fight or menace India and perceived domestic enemies instead of being deployed against jihadists," he said.
Currently, director of South & Central Asia at the Hudson Institute, a top American think-tank, Haqqani said competition with India remains the overriding consideration in Pakistan's foreign and domestic policies.  —PTI

Countries with less than 1 percent Muslim population

Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump on Monday called for the United States to impose “a total and complete shutdown of Muslims entering the United States until our country's representatives can figure out what is going on.”

What might that look like?

The U.S. already had one of the smallest Muslim populations in the world in 2010, according to a Pew Research Center study.

This map shows where Muslims made up less than 1% of the population. Countries with larger
Muslim populations are shown in black. The United States' population was 0.9% Muslim.

'Gay boy' living opposite a mosque in London tackles Islamophobia in viral post

PHOTO: AP

A 25-year-old British boy has done what the Muslim world struggles to do day in and day out.

In an effort to dispel anti-Muslim sentiment in London, Thomas Mauchline, who is gay and lives across the street from a mosque, penned a blog post that has now gone viral.

Mauchline was inspired by a bystander’s reaction to Saturday’s tube stabbing, who yelled, “You ain’t no Muslim bruv!” at the masked man who police say committed an act of terror.

The post, titled, “15 things I learnt about Islam and British values being a gay boy living opposite a mosque,” has been shared widely on Facebook and Twitter and hailed by UK politicians for helping to dismantle the stereotype of Muslims as extremists.

Thomas Mauchline who lives opposite a mosque in London wanted to do his part to dispel anti-Muslim sentiment in the city following the deadly Paris attacks.

Londoners respond to metro attack with #YouAintNoMuslimBruv

“I woke up on Sunday and saw the videos from Leytonstone with the guy telling the attacker that ‘You ain’t a Muslim bruv’ and I thought it was just very London,” Mauchline told Mashable.

“It reminded me of all these quite funny, positive experiences I had been having with my Muslim neighbours over the last 4 years — so thought I would share with my friends online.”

The hilarious and insightful post features facts like, “You will be happy they pray a lot when you get stabbed on your door step and are too scared to go outside. So you time your trips to the shops to coincide with these prays as the streets are full of friendly people.”

“When confronted with something out of their comfort zone, like me and my boyfriend in full drag dancing down the road, Muslims like all British people get flustered and over compensate with being overly polite  —  a bit like Hugh Grant,” it added.

Another hilarious point in the blog was: “British people’s dry sarcasm works really well when confronting the times the more traditional parts of Islam come face-to-face with modern gay culture. For example when I donated three sequined crop tops to the Islamic relief Syria clothing drive, one of the older guys their smirked, shaking my hand and saying ‘our brothers and sisters in Syria thank you for the evening wear.’”

Mauchline, who is originally from the town of Stourbridge, said he was initially hesitant to move across from the South London Islamic Center. “The media stories about Islam meant that I was genuinely a little nervous about moving in across the road to a mosque,” he explained in the post.

“What I have learnt in the four years since I moved is that the ridiculousness of British culture is universal. We all love tea, are really polite and tut rather than saying something, no matter our religion,” he added.

The film has an ensemble cast of Akshay Kumar, Abhishek Bachchan, Riteish Deshmukh, Jacqueline Fernandez, Nargis Fakhri and Lisa Haydon.

However, she will not be seen performing any serious action sequences.

California woman shooter India's Connection

California woman shooter may have travelled to India: NYT

The Pakistani woman suspect in the California mass shooting may have travelled to India from Saudi Arabia once in 2013, a year before she came to the US with her husband, a media report said today.

Tashfeen Malik, 27, had visited Saudi Arabia twice, the New York Times quoted a Saudi Interior Ministry official as saying.

After one of the visits to the kingdom, she had left for India, the report said.

The report quoted Saudi Interior Ministry spokesman Mansour Turki as saying that Malik had arrived in Saudi Arabia in June, 2008 from Pakistan to visit her father and stayed for about nine weeks before returning to Pakistan.

"Then, in 2013, she arrived on June 8, from Pakistan, and departed for India on October 6 of the same year," Turki was quoted as saying in the NYT report.

But there is no further detail about whether Malik had reached India or for how long and where in India she stayed.

The details of her life before arriving in the US emerged as investigators probed the background and motivation of Malik and her Pakistani-American husband Syed Rizwan Farook, 28, for carrying out last week's mass shooting that killed 14 people before both were shot dead by police.

Turki said there was "no evidence" that Malik had met her husband in the kingdom, but they were in Saudi Arabia at the same time for about five days in October 2013.

Farook visited Saudi Arabia twice, once for the Hajj pilgrimage in October, 2013, and once for an off-season Umraah pilgrimage for nine days in July, 2014.

American officials reported that the couple flew to the US together from Jeddah in July, 2014.

The NYT report said that according to Malik's relatives and acquaintances in Pakistan, she had grown up in Saudi Arabia and had been influenced by its deeply conservative interpretation of Islam.

Saudi officials however denied that she spent significant time in the kingdom, saying she visited only twice, for a few months in total.

Malik had moved with her father, an engineer, from Punjab province in Pakistan to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, when she was a young child, the report said adding that from 2007 to around 2012, Malik studied in Multan where one faculty member recalled her as a "Saudi girl" because her religious observance was so much stricter than that of her peers.

She obtained her place as a pharmacy student at Bahauddin Zakariya University under a quota system that reserves spots for the children of expatriate Pakistanis — suggesting that she had indeed grown up abroad, the report said.

The NYT report further said that Saudi officials have denied the idea that Malik took up more fundamentalist views in Saudi Arabia, or that it played a role in the relationship between her and Farook.

"The Saudi narrative has varied to the extent that one official denied she had ever been there," the report said.

A day after the attack, a spokesman for the Saudi Foreign Ministry Osama Nugali said told NYT that while Farook had visited the kingdom only once, for nine days in 2014, there was no record of Malik having ever entered the kingdom.

"For the lady, we don't have a record of this name," he said. —PTI

CHANEL BRINGS ANCIENT ROME TO PARIS FOR ITS LATEST SHOW

Rome's Cinecittà film studio became a bohemian portion of Paris for the evening as models bypassed guests sat on bistro chairs on a makeshift Parisian pavement

A chic international crowd walks along a dark cobblestone street that opens onto an ancient Roman temple front. White columns gleam, huge statues and swathes of Chanel tweed flicker in the torch light.

We are in the Italian capital, but these are not Roman ruins. Instead, we’re on the set of the TV series Rome, at the famed Cinecitta studios on the outskirts of the Eternal City.

This is where revered Italian director Federico Fellini crafted many of his greatest films, including his 1963 masterpiece 8½. It is a certified icon of Italian cinema. Chanel has taken over the space for one night to stage its annual Métiers d’Art show (this time called “Paris in Rome”) and to debut a new tongue-in-cheek film by Karl Lagerfeld, titled Once and Forever, starring Kristen Stewart and Geraldine Chaplin.

“I don’t analyse my way of thinking,” Lagerfeld tells a phalanx of journalists after the show in response to a question about whether he’s taking a more cinematic approach to his work. “But it’s a good motivation.”
This time, Chanel brought Paris to Rome. The facsimile of a dark Parisian street that Chanel constructed on the sound-set of Teatro 5 took six weeks to complete.

A star-studded front row: Kristen Stewart arrived in Rome leaving her usual tomboy style firmly back in LA and featured in the mini biopic, The real Coco, that was shown to the audience

Stewart, who stars as a grumpy starlet (perhaps a cheeky reference to her real-life persona), says she feels “blessed to be part of something that isn’t just contrived and money-driven”.

It’s been said by more than a few fashion insiders that the industry should be more cinematic, and Once and Forever, a fictional behind-the-scenes look at the making of a Coco Chanel biopic, is as much about cinema as fashion gets.

The dreamworld of fiction is a powerful evocation of style, and much more potent than standard runway shows, which have become heavily merchandised.

Held at Rome’s Cinecittà, a film studio built by Benito Mussolini and where Cleopatra, La Dolce Vita and Ben-Hur were filmed, keywords included 60s Italian cinema and its French actresses Romy Schneider and Anouk Aimee who, of course, would wear Chanel. The city of Rome played its part as well; guests travelled through various incarnations of Rome and Paris-in-Rome – the location of the pre-show cocktails were mocked up with a faux Pantheon and Arch of Titus, and the set of the show looked like a black-and-white film set which gave attendees Pleasantville-vibes. Eerie and chilling, that same feeling of unnerving and transience that emerged after spring/summer ’16 started seeping in. Misgivings were cast aside once the show started with one of Chanel’s strongest collections in recent times.

Aamir Decieve Hafeez

Call it karma or just luck but Pakistan left-arm pacer Muhammad Amir on Tuesday made Muhammad Hafeez eat his words during a Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) match.
The encounter between Chittagong Vikings and Dhaka Dynamites had already promised firecrackers after Hafeez had issued a statement saying he would not play alongside Amir, who recently served a five-year ICC ban for spot-fixing.
“I was approached by my agent to play for the Chittagong team but when I knew that Amir was also in that team I refused it point blank,” Hafeez told AFP.

“If any other team makes me an offer then I will play the league and I have no problems facing Amir as I have played against him in the domestic matches but can’t be in the same team.”
In the match, where Dhaka are currently batting first after losing the toss to Chittagong, Pakistani leg-spinner Yasir Shah and Shykat Ali opened the batting.
Both openers went back to the pavillion cheaply inside four overs.
Amir, then came on to bowl the fifth over with the ‘Professor’ on strike. Hafeez left the first good-length ball which was pitched on the off stump. The second ball was a shorter delivery outside off again. Hafeez tried to cut it but the bounce beat him. Third time lucky, Hafeez was able to touch the ball with his bat. A delivery on the off stump was defended towards point.
And then came the final blow. Hafeez tickled an outgoing ball to the keeper and it was curtains for the Professor. Only two players shared the limelight in that moment; an ecstatic Amir and a disappointed Hafeez!
After that Kumar Sangakkara and Mosaddek Hossain stabled the innings for the Dynamites adding 56 runs for the fifth wicket.
Amir, meanwhile, bagged two more wickets in the last over of the match.
